Best Toronto Restaturants for Canadian Beef Steak

Toronto has dozens of steak restaurants but which restaurants are serving genuine Canadian beef steaks? As I began to research I was shocked to discover how many of Toronto’s steak restaurants only serve U.S. beef. That just would not do… and so I did all of the leg for you and give you my list of:

Best Toronto Restaturants for Canadian Beef Steak

  1. The Classic: Hy’s Steakhouse, 101-120 Adelaide Street West
A swanky steakhouse near to both conference locations, Hy’s brings the experience you expect when dining on a choice cut of beef. Armchairs and sofas make for a cozy experience and of course the Caesar salad will be prepared for you tableside. They proudly serve up Canadian prime beef aged a minimum of 28 days.
Suggestion: The “Only” New York Strip, their signature cut with Hy’s steak sauce (10 oz 38.95, 14 oz 46.95)
  2. The Old School: Tulip Steakhouse, 1610 Queen St. E.
The Tulip will never win any awards for it’s decor or atmosphere. This old school steak diner has been serving up delicious cuts of beef since before you could chew.  Their Triple A Canadian steaks  are all cut on site. One taste and you’ll know why they’ve been in business for over 80 years. A little off the beaten path if you’re coming from the downtown core, but well worth the cab fare. Modestly priced but done up right!
Suggestion: Medallion of Beef Tenderloin, served with Green Peppercorn Cream & Brandy Sauce (8 oz 26.95)
  3. The Buzz: Oliver & Bonacini Cafe Grill, Yonge & Front
O&B always seem to capture such great energy in all of their restaurants. Their Cafe Grill is no exception. The stylish restaurant and bar is generally packed with cocktail sipping patrons and it’s a great place for dinner and drinks with friends. Chef Zuzana Harsaghy, locally trained at George Brown’s Chef’s School, serves up a diverse menu of top-end cuisine but we’re here for the steak..
Suggestion: Steak & Shrimp,  grilled Angus beef top sirloin, beans n’ bacon, rock shrimp mac & cheese (10 oz 31.95)
  4. The Foodie: Beast Restaurant, 96 Tecumseth St.
Beast’s modest wooden tables and chairs help diners concentrate on the star of the show: the food in front of them. Focusing on fresh and local sustainable ingredients and priding themselves on a menu gathered from farms in Ontario, this restaurant is not just a steak place – but where else can you you go and know precisely what local farm your steak came from?
Suggestion: Strip Loin, served with cauliflower, salsa verde, sunflower seeds (16.00)
  5. The Prim & Proper: EPIC, at Fairmont Royal York, 100 Front St. W.
If you’re looking for fine dining, look no further than EPIC at the historic Fairmont Royal York hotel. A decor and menu which are both exquisite, the price is well worth the experience. With a menu that focuses on sustainable ingredients and changes with the seasons, the steaks at EPIC should certainly not be overlooked.
Suggestion: Canadian Prime Beef Striploin, caramelized onion potato puree, local heirloom carrots, Fun Guy Farms glazed mushrooms, red wine jus (10 oz 45.00)
  6. BONUS: The Swag: Carnicero’s Prime Meats, in the St. Lawrence Market, 92 – 95 Front St. E.
While you won’t be able to get dinner cooked for you at Carnicero’s, it’s the perfect place to stop and pickup a gift for your significant other before you head home from a busy weekend downtown. What better way to say “I love you” than a tomahawk steaks from the newest butcher in the St. Lawrence Market. They’ve been making quite a stir with their Flinstone sized portions. An absolute must to put on your bucket list.
Suggestion: The Tomahawk Steak, (13.99 per lb)
